Beaune to Rome
In 2015, the year of Ben's 70th birthday and my 60th we decided to cycle from "Home to Rome".
After a disastrous start, this became "Beaune to Rome" and proved to be hugely enjoyable.
On the first day the plan was to cycle from our home in Surrey to Newhaven to catch the ferry to Dieppe. Sadly, just as we crested the South Downs on the Sustrans route, Ben caught his back wheel on the edge of the path and landed head first on the tarmac. He was concussed, so to cut a long story short our first night was spent in the Royal Sussex Hospital, our son picked us up the next day and took us back home where Ben made a good recovery after a few days.
We were reluctant to give up our plans and had a flight booked home from Rome a few weeks later, so hit on the idea of using the European Bike Express to take us to Beaune a week later and thus catch up with our planned schedule. All worked well - here are the photos.
